The Goring Hotel

The Goring Hotel is a quintessentially English hotel situated in the heart of London close to Buckingham Palace.  Privately owned by the Goring family it was the first hotel in London to feature en-suite bathrooms in every room.

Despite its many traditional appearances The Goring behind the scenes the hotel is always looking to innovate in order to provide the very best service for its guests.

Our initial involvement with The Goring began with 2007 when we were asked to assist with the renovation of a number of rooms.  We specified and installed an intelligent Clipsal lighting system.  This allows guests to easily control the lighting and blinds in the rooms from clearly labeled switches.  We also provided simple to use iPod connected sound systems for the bedrooms and bathrooms.  The lighting system allowed us to introduce intelligent touches like turning on the lights when you enter the room at different levels at different times of the day - no more fumbling for a light switch in an unfamiliar environment.

In mid-2008 The Goring commissioned renowned designer Tim Gosling to refurbish the popular bar and lounge in the hotel.  With a brief was “make it look like we never refurbished it”. The second was “don’t spend over a million”. In fact, so determined were the hotel to maintain
the character, that we made direct copies of much of the original furniture. There were, however, some changes, including:
• Bespoke carpets made by the same French firm who beautified
the Palais de Versailles
• Ceilings gilded using about an acre of gold leaf
• Hand-woven silks by Pierre Frey
• Crystal chandeliers by Fine Art Lamps in the USA.

Beyond the Invisible were commissioned to provide the lighting control for the area. The hotel wanted the lighting to change subtly during the course of the day and throughout the different seasons of the year.  This was to be achieved automatically so that the staff could concentrate on serving the guests not fiddling with the lights.  Again a Clipsal lighting system was installed to control all manner of lighting including the LED strips that illuminated the gold leaf on the ceilings.  A simple control panel takes care of the lights adjusting the times that the scenes change during the day according to sunrise and sunset patterns.

We are now working with The Goring on some further room and public space enhancements.
