The Challenge...

A large spa area was installed in a basement of a Georgian home in Kensington. The space included a steam room, whirlpool bath and shower facilities. The owners were keen that the lighting and entertainment added to the feeling of relaxation and luxury.

LIGHTING DESIGN

As it was designed to be a relaxing area, the lighting design was important to create the right atmosphere. There were also practical considerations. As most of the area was being used as a spa, all the light fittings needed to be rated for use in wet areas.

Fibre optics were used in the main spa area to make the most of barrel vaulted ceiling and to create an interesting effect. Plaster-in lights with LEDs were used to provide more ambient lighting.

LIGHTING CONTROL

The lighting for the whole area is controlled via Clipsal C-Bus. As well as being able to recall scenes in each area, the owners can turn the whole space on and off from the main entrance.

ENTERTAINMENT

A waterproof TV was installed for convenient viewing from the whirlpool bath. Speakers were installed in each area, including marine grade waterproof speakers in the steam room. A central music server, installed outside the spa area provides the owners with easy access to all their music.
