The Challenge...
The owners of the property were carrying out a major renovation and extension to their home. As part of the work they wanted a home cinema on the ground floor. The house is late Georgian with very high ceilings. The owners also wanted to maintain the classical feel of the room during the day, and for the entertainment to be invisible when not in use.
HOME CINEMA
A large electric projector screen was concealed in the ceiling which descended when in use. Due the height of the drop the screen was custom made by the manufacturer so that the viewing area was at a comfortable height when in use. The projector itself was mounted on the wall and concealed in cabinetry.
High quality speakers were installed in the ceiling. The speakers can be angled behind the grilles so we can accurately aim the sound towards the listening position. The surround speakers were also mounted in the ceiling. An in-wall sub-woofer was used to avoid the need for an ugly box on the floor. This was installed under the fireplace.
CONTROL
A home cinema needs to be easy to use. We provided a single remote control for Sky, DVD and music. Choosing either Sky or DVD automatically turned on the projector and dropped the screen.
LIGHTING CONTROL
The cinema lighting is controlled via a Clipsal C-Bus lighting control system, the system was also installed in the rest of the home.
