The heart of many homes.  A kitchen is a place to cook, often a place eat, and everyone is going to end up here at a party.

Real World Example: Demo House.  Different channels of light enable the kitchen area to be bright when cooking but also to fall into shadow when eating or watching TV in this open plan space.  The computer/TV screen is handily placed next to the cooker.
